<image:caption>Towards the end of my junior year, the Uptown Educational Foundation helped me with multiple steps I had to take in order to get a head start: take the SATs, complete the Common App, SUNY and CUNY App, and the FAFSA. Not only did Th Foundation fund SAT prep for me and several other students, they also paid the fees for us to take the test a second time to improve our scores. And that's exactly what happened to me. My score increased by eighty points, and made all the difference; it placed me in a great position for all my schools. We also all met frequently after school to work on applications and sometimes with the help of our mentor, "Aunt Jackie." She and I had meaningful conversations and she was more than willing to offer optimal advice on narrowing my college list, editing my resume, and completing a brag sheet. As if the UEF wasn’t generous enough already, I and other students were awarded a $1,000 scholarship to aid our college expenses. To put it simply, the UEF created a sense of solace and balance in my personal and academic life. This support system provided the help I could not have received anywhere else, and I thank Mr.Murphy and the Foundation for that to this day.</image:caption>

<image:caption>My name is Kerlyn Caba, and I graduated from St. Lawrence University in 2024. Throughout my senior year, I dreaded the college application process. My college readiness was of the utmost importance to me. Surely enough, the Uptown Educational Foundation assisted me in my struggles. For example, the SAT was one of my worst fears. My PSAT and SAT scores were below what I expected, but after receiving SAT prep through the Foundation, not only did I raise my scores to where I felt they should have been, but I also became more confident in tackling other aspects expected of me. Furthermore, something that I really wanted to excel at was my college essay. One of the most challenging things to do when writing is collecting all thoughts and portrayals of the story onto paper. After repeatedly rewriting my personal statement through my strong connection with The Foundation, I was finally able to submit my work to colleges with a proud smile and a gleaming aura of confidence. I knew that that essay had such value to me, and it portrayed all of my thoughts the way I wanted the college admission offices to read it. Beyond the application process, the scholarships awarded to me were pivotal in alleviating some of my financial struggles. As I entered college, I used those funds for many essential purposes. The biggest benefit for me was the travel expense. Traveling to and from college without a car was not easy for me. I used some of the scholarship funds to help me get to my future school, St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York. Needless to say, the Foundation was an essential part of preparing for college.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Hello! My name is Kebra Baako, and I was part of the Frederick Douglass Academy graduating class of 2019! I graduated from the University at Albany in 2023 with a major in Business Administration and a double minor in French and Economics. My experience here at the University at Albany was amazing! I have found myself fully merging with the academic and social cultures. I made the Dean’s List both semesters of my first year. I also served as an Orientation Leader, a prestigious and highly sought-after role here on campus. It opened up a huge social network of people for me. I say all this not to boast, but to emphasize how much The Uptown Educational Foundation has contributed to my accomplishments here at school. Without my scholarship, I would not have been able to afford my first-year fees, which would’ve led me to defer from school for at least a semester. Attaining this scholarship allowed me to come on campus and pursue my education. It enabled me to do things both academically and socially that were, at the time, my wildest dreams. It is because of the personal difference this scholarship has made in my education that I would like to encourage you to contribute to the Uptown Educational Foundation. Undoubtedly, the scholarships awarded to students like me through the foundation truly make a difference!</image:caption>

<image:caption>My name is Rosanna Munoz, and I am an NYU Graduate (2025). I am currently in the NYU Nursing program. I would like to thank the Uptown Foundation for the assistance and guidance they provided me throughout my junior year. Prior to joining the Uptown Foundation program, I had no idea how to begin studying for the SAT. However, the Uptown Foundation program provided me with the latest SAT prep materials and tutoring sessions, which helped me develop better study habits for the SAT and future exams. Even during the pandemic, the Uptown Foundation was dedicated to assisting me and my classmates by providing Zoom classes and offering as much assistance as possible. The Uptown Foundation Scholarship was a big help in covering my tuition at New York University. I am a first-generation college student, and I had no idea how or when I was required to pay for my first semester of college; thus, I am grateful that the Uptown Foundation Scholarship partially covered my tuition while I navigated and learned more about the financial aspects of college.</image:caption>

<image:caption>My name is Patrick Amoyaw, and I am a 2024 Graduate of Lafayette College, where I was a Posse Scholar. The Uptown Foundation was crucial in my college readiness. Before I even began the college process, “Uptown” provided me with resources to prepare for the SAT. I had access to a live instructor and tons of textbooks and materials to prepare for the exam. Uptown went so far as to offer us virtual SAT classes during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic. The assistance from The Uptown Foundation did not end there. When I finally chose the school I would finally be spending the next four years of my life, Uptown gave me a scholarship. This scholarship was instrumental in helping me navigate my first year of college. It covered numerous technology fees, textbooks, and lab fees. It even covered some snacks for some late-night study sessions. I am extremely thankful for The Uptown Foundation, as they made my first year of college a lot easier.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The Uptown Educational Foundation has helped by providing me with resources during high school and college. In high school, through UEF, I was able to get Kaplan SAT prep, which provided me with a tutor every week and test prep books which improved my score. While taking advanced placement courses, UEF was able to supply me with AP review test prep books. To add on, I got support with my college process, such as writing meaningful supplements and a profound personal statement that allowed me to get accepted into competitive colleges. Alongside, it opened my knowledge to new literature by providing me with books that were out of my reach, will all of this aid, it supported my career interests therefore I want to continue expanding my knowledge with a higher education. With the continuous generosity of the Foundation, I'm very grateful that it helped me pay my tuition during my first year of college. It helped me reduce financial stress on my family and I. The foundation has been a support system and a place where I can ask for help to inquire and aspire myself as well as others around me.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Ruby Ayala. SUNY Albany. Class of 2025 The Uptown Foundation assisted me greatly during my college admissions journey. I was grateful to have had the opportunity to attend weekly SAT classes because the more I practiced the material, the more confident and skilled I felt on the day of the test. Along with in-person classes, I was provided with SAT prep books for at-home practice, which I used during the pandemic months. I am most thankful for the generosity of The Uptown Foundation Scholarship, which helped me tremendously with textbooks and lab fees. At times when I felt stressed, I knew I could rely on The Uptown Foundation to better prepare me for my dream school.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Hello, my name is Nahila Nzina. I graduated from Frederick Douglass Academy on June 25, 2020. I am currently attending the City College of New York and will finish my Master's in Psychology this year (2026). The Uptown Foundation has helped me tremendously by enabling me to purchase a laptop for my classes with the scholarship money. This scholarship has benefitted my learning experience, and without it, I would not have been able to purchase it for school. People should contribute to this foundation because many students are eager to learn and work hard but lack the resources to do so. By giving to the Uptown Foundation, you are contributing to the success of many high school and college students. The Uptown Educational Foundation will help students who need the academic support and resources needed for a successful education.</image:caption>
